Notes

Released at the absolute peak of early 2000s tech-luxury, with a MSRP of $10,000 USD, the Sony KDE-50XBR950 was a status symbol engineered with zero cost-cutting. While Sony provided the chassis and video processing, the actual 1366x768 PDP glass inside was manufactured by Fujitsu (featuring their acclaimed AVM tech).

The display features a thick layer of transparent glass extending past the black frame, making the panel appear suspended in air when wall- or stand-mounted.

Rather than plugging sources into the heavy display itself, all inputs run into an external media receiver box connected to the display via proprietary umbilical cables. It packs Sony’s flagship analog-to-digital processing suite (DRC-MF V1) and includes legacy digital connectivity like DVI-D and i.LINK (FireWire) right before HDMI became the industry standard.
